Guess is a relatively young company in comparison to the rest, it was founded in California in 1981 by Maurice and Paul Marciano who are of French origin. Jeans are the main foundation to the Guess company and they redefined denim with notorious ad campaigns. One of their initial designs was a stonewashed, slim-fitting jean, the 3-zip Marilyn. Bloomingdale’s was the first department store to take on the brand by ordering two dozen pairs of jeans on a trial basis. They disappeared from the shelves in just hours. This was the beginning of a long success story.

Guess created ground breaking advertising campaigns featuring models previously unknown in the industry, and turned them into superstars overnight. Models such as Claudia Schiffer, Carrè Otis, Eva Herzigova, Carla Bruni, and Naomi Campbell launched their careers in the original Guess campaigns. Directed by the keen eye of Paul Marciano the Guess brand was brought to life from the deserts of the American West to the beaches of Rio and the streets of Paris.

The Marcianos vision moved the brand into new frontiers and because of that Guess is today a global lifestyle brand with a full range of apparel and accessories (including glasses and sunglasses), 19 licensing partners and 1,210 stores in over 80 countries.

A study has proven that if male African American defendants wear glasses during their court appearance they look less like a criminal! Perception is everything in the court room.

This study published in the American Journal of Forensic Psychology, asked students to judge a fabricated case. The students concluded that African American defendants wearing glasses were considered more intelligent, more honest and less threatening than those without; white defendants with glasses were not found to have the same impact.

Wearing glasses is becoming a calculated strategy in the court room, helping paint a more scholarly and innocent picture of their clients. However, the eyeglasses trend doesn’t work for everyone.

In 1921, Guccio Gucci opened a leather goods company and small luggage store in his native town of Florence, Italy. Gucci was inspired by London and it’s refined English nobility while working in the Savoy hotel. Upon returning to Italy he set out to mix this English nobility style with his native Italy style and within a few years the label enjoyed international success.

During the Fascist dictatorship in Italy Gucci began to experiment with different luxury materials, one of which was cane. They burnished the cane to create the handle of the new iconic Bamboo bag, a favourite of royalty and celebrities alike, the bag remains a huge favourite today.

In 1953 Guccio Gucci passed away leaving the company in the capable hands of his sons Aldo, Vasco, Ugo and Rodolfo. The 50′s also saw the company expand it’s stores to Milan and New York.

In the 1960′s Gucci designed the famous interlocking double G logo which is one of Gucci’s most recognisable logo’s. Gucci continued its expansion abroad with stores opening in London, Palm Beach, Paris, Beverly Hills, the Far East, Tokyo and Hong Kong. The company developed its first ready-to-wear collections, featuring GG printed shirts or GG buttoned fur-trim coats.

In 1977, its Beverly Hills flagship was revamped with a private Gucci Gallery, where privileged VIPs like Rita Hayworth or Michael Caine could browse for $10,000 bags with detachable gold and diamond chain or platinum fox bed throws.

In 1982 Gucci was made a PLC and the company was passed from Rodolfo Gucci to his son Maurizio Gucci and in 1987 the company was eventually bought over by a Bahrain company called Investcorp. Gucci was relaunched in the early 90′s and in 1994 Tom Ford became it’s creative director. Tom gave the brand a breath of fresh air.

In 2006 Frida Giannini, formerly Creative Director of accessories, is appointed sole Creative Director . Exploring Gucci’s rich heritage and its incomparable craftsmanship capabilities, Giannini has created a unique vision for Gucci that fuses past and present; history and modernity.

Gucci continues to focus on strengthening the values upon which Guccio Gucci built the company, that is why many male and female celebrities continue to don Gucci attire, they know they will look and feel amazing! See our Gucci eye wear range here!

In 1965 the Fendi family joined forces with the German designer Karl Lagerfeld and he created the famous inverted FF logo we all know today and the whole concept surrounding the use of fur in the fashion industry is forever changed.

In 1968 the president of the American superstore Bloomingdales discovered Fendi’s leather goods and introduced them to the United States. The Fendi brand spread internationally from there. Today, thanks to continuous research and with an eye constantly to the future, Fendi is still considered the leader in fur fashion design with many celebs sporting there range of accessories including spectacles and sunglasses.

In 1985, they showed their first women’s collection in Milan, winning national acclaim and in 1989 they opened their first boutique in Japan of all places! Dolce and Gabbana are known for wanting to make women look “fantastically sexy”. Many of their designs are adapted from the feminist-era, before being glamorised and modernised. They describe their style as “sweet and sharp” and “New Millennium cool”. They were once quoted as saying they are mostly concerned with creating the best, most flattering clothes and sparkling trends. Form their first boutique in Japan Dolce and Gabbana have grown from strength to strength including many ranges including their famous sunglasses and spectacles range!

Yes you read that correctly! Google are set to launch their “Google Glasses” this year! Nobody knows for sure what they are going to look like but it has been said that they are very similar to the Oakley style. The sunglasses are set to be like a smart phone, they will stream information to the wearer’s eyeballs in real time.

The Google glasses are said to be Android based and will include a small screen that will sit a few inches from the users eye. They will also have a 3G or 4G data connection and a number of sensors including motion and GPS. The GPS navigation system in the glasses will work by head tilting to scroll and click, it will be very quick to adapt to your head movements so it will be become indistinguishable to others around you!

Just think of the possibilities that this can bring, you will never get lost again… or will you? We will just have to wait and SEE (pardon the pun )
